Carey is a hard-nosed journalist with more than 12 years of international experience covering both breaking news and in-depth features related to the pharmaceutical industry, health care and science. She now runs Sargent-Holliger Communications, a company focused on helping scientific researchers better explain the value of their work to a wide public.
Carey previously worked as an editor on the European Health Care team at Bloomberg News in Geneva, helping to guide coverage of the pharmaceutical industry and deliver market-moving news to customers at breakneck speed. She has also worked as a reporter at Bloomberg in London and Geneva and at Dow Jones Newswires in Zurich, securing exclusive interviews with top chief executives and writing features on topics ranging from the search for new antibiotics to genetic engineering. Her stories have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the International Herald Tribune, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Boston Globe and other international publications.
Carey started her career as a research assistant at the Economics Faculty at the University of Basel, helping teach undergraduate statistics and doing research into models of volatility transfer between stock markets. She received her M.S. degree in Financial Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London (UK) and her B.A. in Philosophy at Rice University (Houston, USA).
